Dr. Thomas Jones Obituary (1953

Thomas Alan Jones, 64, of Broken Bow, OK, went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 25, 2017. He was born in Durant, OK, on July 6, 1953, to Ocal and Pauline Jones. He was educated in Antlers Public Schools, where he never missed a single day of school from kindergarten to high school. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University in 1976, majoring in Microbiology. He then attended Oklahoma College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, graduating in 1979.In 2004, he married Sherri Lynn Staudinger, at Lake Tahoe, CA. He leaves his beloved wife Sherri Jones; his daughter Autumn Bevills, and her husband, Doug; his step-daughter, Amber Crocker, and her husband, Caleb; and his step-son, Bryan Manning, and fiance Sarah Talley. He was preceded in death by his son, Forrest Jones. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Trevor and Kinsley Bevills, and Addison Jones. He is survived by his brothers, Paul and Bill Jones; and sister, Linda Powell. He is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of longtime friends and patients.During his college years, he spent a summer in Yellowstone National Park, serving as a firefighter that also managed wildlife within the park. He also spent a summer working on a derrick in the oil fields near Stillwater, OK. Upon graduation from medical school, he established a family practice in Valliant, OK, where he cared for patients for 30 years. He became the family physician for Kiamichi Family Medical Center in Idabel, OK, in 2006 and retired from there in February of 2017. Throughout his life, he also served as chief of staff for McCurtain Memorial Hospital.Mr. Jones, known to some as Dr. Jones was a kind, down to earth, loving husband, father, and friend. He was a devoted doctor who cared for his patients as if they were family. He has impacted the lives of so many and will be a greatly missed role model for the community. He was the kind of man young men hope to be when they grow up, and old men wish they had been.Funeral Services will be held at the Assembly of God Church, in Broken Bow, OK, on Sunday July 30, 2017, at 2:00 PM, with Bob Stuart officiating. Pallbearers will include Larry Woods, Larry Mullens, Larry Hack, David Putnam, Curtis Luna, and Bob Cheek. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Bolton, Gary Murphy, Gordon Butzirus, Shawn Harmon, Lewis James, Van Duke, Mark Bush, and Bill Claborn. Visitation will be held at Brumley Funeral Home in Broken Bow, OK, on Saturday July 29, 2017 from 4:00-6:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at the Hochatown Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Mr. Jones' memory can be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
