Katie Bernice (Battiest) Baker Obituary (1970 - 2021)

Katie Bernice Baker, 50, of Broken Bow, passed from this life April 4, 2021 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital. She was born April 29, 1970 in Talihina to Esau and Mulsie (Tims) Battiest. Katie was a lifelong member of the St. Matthew Presbyterian Church and had lived in McCurtain County all her life. Katie never met a stranger, was friendly to all she met, and always willing to give advice to those that needed it. She enjoyed taking pictures, watching kids play ball, and traveling with her grandchildren. Katie loved her Choctaw Heritage and helped maintain the A.I.L.Y.C. She enjoyed working at the Choctaw Nation Clinic and loved her co-workers. Katie was very outgoing, involved in her community, and all her friends were considered family to her. She was extremely close to her Baker family. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, they always made sure she was bringing her deviled eggs. Her family will always remember her with her chicken legs and jalapenos. She always loved spending time with her kids and grandkids and was so proud of them. Katie loved taking pictures of everyone. Katie married her soulmate, Reggie Baker on October 22, 2009 in DeQueen, AR. Every time they would go somewhere, Reggie would drive while Katie would always sing. She loved gospel singing. Katie was preceded in death by her father, Esau Battiest; grandparents, Isaac and Helen Battiest; niece, Ataya Battiest; brother, Cordell Battiest; sister, Yolanda Battiest; mother-in-law, Lavada Baker; and sister-in-law, Marquitta Janet Seeley. Katie leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Reggie Baker, of the home; mother, Mulsie Battiest, of Hugo; Cameron Shomo, of Broken Bow; daughters, Tia Battiest, and Cathy Martinez, of Finley, Desiree Noah, and August Welcher, of Broken Bow, and Krystal Mussett, and Gage Mussett, of Idabel; sisters, Amanda Battiest, and Robert Rios, of Broken Bow, Anita Jefferson, and Wally Jefferson, of Broken Bow, Andrea Bohanon, of Ft. Smith; and special sister, Debra Ann Noah, of Broken Bow; grandchildren, Paityn Battiest, Kee'ana Martinez, Lilah Gibson, Ja'tavis (Bub) Hodge, Na'omi Martinez, and baby, Izabella Battiest; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Regina, Ronald, Doris, and Carrie, along with many other friends, and many other relatives. A Celebration of Life Service will be on the grounds at St. Matthews Presbyterian Church with Pastor Rita Battiest officiating on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 2:00PM. A Wake Service will be Friday, April 9, 2021 from 6-8PM at the Brumley Funeral Home Chapel.
