Longtime Broken Bow resident, Jim Mack Hastings, 90, passed away February 13, 2012, at the Broken Bow Health and Rehab Center. The son of Joe M. and Daisy (Costilow) Hastings, Jim was born May 6, 1921 in Golden, Oklahoma. He served our country as a B-17 Ball Turret Gunner in the Army Air Force during WWII. At the age of twelve, Jim began working in a pharmacy and continued his work after receiving his Doctorate in Pharmacy from OU in 1947. He worked for over 65 years and was one of the oldest living active Pharmacists in Oklahoma. Jim was recognized by Lt. Gov. Mary Fallon for over 50 years of service to the City of Broken Bow as City Councilman and Mayor. He was also a long-time member and officer of the Broken Bow Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Riley Joe Harkey; one brother, Charles Gaffney Hastings; and one sister, Jeannette (Hastings) Bramblet. Jim Mack leaves to cherish his life, five children, Barbara Mathis, Charles Owens, Frank Hastings and his wife, Dolores, Beth Watts, Vance Hastings and his wife, Lynda; daughter- in- law, Sherri Harkey; thirteen grandchildren, Billy Joe Harkey and his wife, Shelly, Larisa Parsons and her husband, Jimmy, Sandra Sawyer, Luke Cogburn, Kelly Cogburn, Dustin Owens, Katie Mitchell and her husband, Wade, James Hastings, Cara Hair and her husband, Michael, Brad Watts, Logan Daniels and his wife, Janelle, and Quentin Hastings, Kenneth Mathis and his wife, Marla; fifteen great-grandchildren, Riley Lynn Harkey, Billy (Keefer) Harkey, Tanner Harkey, Skyler Gammon, Wesley Johnson, Aubrey Cogburn, Devyn Montoya, Maggie Mitchell, Garrison Hair, Owen Hair, Sean Watts, Troy Herrera and Carter Herrera, Jeremy Parsons, Brittany Parsons and Tasha Perry and her husband, Chad; long-time friend, Prycilla Hill; one sister, Hazel (Hastings) Fannell and her husband, Louis; and many friends of Broken Bow.Cemetery:Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery in Broken Bow. \nTo send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Jim Mack Hastings, please visit our floral store.
