Jefferson D. (J.D.) Morris, 87, of Duncan, OK passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Gregston Nursing Home in Marlow, OK. J.D. was born in Pickens, OK on August 5, 1928, the son of Jefferson D. Morris and Leacy Hook Morris. He served in the US Air force at Tinker Field from 1946 to 1947. He married Laverne Meek on December 16, 1946. To this union 3 children were born. Gerald, Ann, and Kaye. J.D. worked the oilfields around Marlow and then returned to Pickens and worked in the lumber industry as a truck driver and as a log cutter. He retired as a crew supervisor from Weyerhaeuser Lumber Company in 1984. He and his wife moved to Duncan in 1985 where he worked at Wal-Mart in Marlow as receiving supervisor. He retired again when the Wal-Mart store closed. J.D. was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church for the past 30 years. He had a deep faith in God and in his love for his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and fan of the OU Sooners. Each year he had a large garden and enjoyed sharing his produce with his family, friends and neighbors. During his retirement he spent a large amount of time studying the Bible and would read it thru several times each year. Survivors include his wife, Laverne of over 69 years. He spent a part of each and every day visiting his wife in the nursing home after she became ill with Alzheimer's. Also surviving is his son; Gerald Morris and his wife Sue of Duncan; daughter, Kaye Lott and her husband Tommy of Midland, Texas; granddaughters, Cindy Hammonds and her husband Brent of Comanche, OK, Melody Harper and her husband Mike of Duncan; grandsons, Jeff Lott and his wife Kerry of Midland, Texas, Russell Morris and his wife Brooke of Duncan; great granddaughters, Genie-Le Smock and her husband Daniel of Midland, Rachel Hammonds of Waurika, OK, Shelby Hammonds of Comanche, OK, Elizabeth Lott and Neely Lott both of Midland, TX, Madelyn Harper and Berkley Morris both of Duncan; great grandsons, Maverick Harper and Boston Morris both of Duncan; great great grandson, Tucker Farrington of Waurika; great great granddaughters, Gena, Kayle and Maddie Smock all of Midland and Zoey Farrington of Waurika. Also surviving is J.D.'s best friend and fishing buddy Joe Earl Morris and his wife Wanda of Duncan. J.D. is preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Ann Morris; brothers, Freeman and Leonard Morris; sisters, Ruby Holmes and Winnie Musgrove. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Pickens Assembly of God Church, Pickens, OK. Interment will follow at County Line Cemetery.
