Dashiell Keirsey Obituary (1921 - 2019)

Dashiell McGee Keirsey, 97, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Dashiell was born October 2, 1921, to Willie Earl and Daisy Jones McGee in New Boston, Texas. Dashiell graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1940, and in that same year, she married Harry Francis Keirsey in Mount Ida, Arkansas. Dashiell began working at Citizens State Bank (now 1st Bank & Trust) in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. She was a dedicated banker for 47 years, serving in many capacities. In recognition of her dedication to bank depositors, customers, and shareholders, she was proud to have served on the Board of Directors of the 1st Bank & Trust in Broken Bow, Idabel, and Wright City. In 1980, she was elected CEO of Southeast Bank Shares for the year. Dashiell was also a member of the Sorosis Study Club, the Jaycee Jaynes, and the Broken Bow Library Board. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Broken Bow. Dashiell is survived by her daughter, Kaye Walters of Oklahoma City, her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jill Walters and Robert Pace of Amarillo, TX, her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jay Walters and Staci Coleman of Oklahoma City, and her three great-granddaughters, Catherine Pace of Austin, TX and Doran and Drew Walters of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by her sister, Linda McGee Roberts of Wichita Falls, TX, and many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. Dashiell was preceded in death by her husband Harry Keirsey, her parents, sister Juanita Fix, sister Jessie Mary Knight, and brother William "Bill" McGee, as well as her son-in-law, George Walters. In addition to serving her community throughout her life, Dashiell enjoyed many years fishing and camping on Broken Bow Lake with Harry, and passed on that love to her daughter and grandchildren. Dashiell spent her leisure time sewing, reading, and playing card games and 42. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her friends and family. The graveside service will be at the Crown Hill Cemetery of Broken Bow on Friday, April 12, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Broken Bow Library at 404 N.
